Guayaberas
Guayaberas are the original traditional garment in Puerto Rico. It’s a tailored loose-fitting shirt for men generally suitable for most occasions, even formal ones. The classic version of Guayaberas is made of fibers from the pineapple plant, cotton, and linen. It has patch pockets on the front and usually worn over an undershirt. The fit is tailored but loose, worn over trousers. Often, has short slits on the side and is dressed with a few buttons open, the undershirt shows underneath when worn. Guayaberas is also known as “Mexican wedding shirt.”
