The Best Rincon Resturants

When it comes to food, count me in! I belong to that 1% of the population that would choose food over dessert, and in this article, I’m going to let you in on my 3 favorite restaurants in Rincon, Puerto Rico. It’s important to remember, that just because we are in Puerto Rico, doesn’t mean we can’t go international. Rincon has become home to a myriad of people from all over the world. This sort of conglomeration of culture has made Rincon widely known for its cuisine. In no particular order, these are my favorite places to eat in Rincon:

Pool Bar Sushi – Pool Bar Sushi is one of THE BEST sushi restaurants in the area (and the only.) It is very possible that owner Allison West knew she would have to step up her game if she was going to provide Caribbean Style Sushi to surfers and travelers alike. My best friend, who was born and raised in Japan, can attest that Pool Bar is a must go when visiting Rincon. The jumbo sushi roll menu offers a variety of freshly caught fish blended with the colors and flavors of the Caribbean. The menu extends beyond fish, also offering rice bowls with pork and chicken. It’s also a great spot for your vegetarian and vegan friends! Besides the creative, stand out menu, what needs to be known is the energy and ambiance of this place. Once you are there, you will not want to leave. Before you know it, you’ll be co-mingling with the locals, and possibly spending a late night out. There are retro surf films rolling on a large projection screen that hangs above the pool, which is smack in the middle of the restaurants’ layout. With the sound of groovy acoustic tunes being played by local musicians, Pool Bar encapsulates the Rincon Surf Vibe in every way.

If there was one thing missing from the Rincon Food scene, it was a great Italian restaurant. That was until Chef Rebeca White, winner of Cooks Vs Cons on the Food Network, decided to open her own restaurant here in Rincon. Mangia Mi (“Eat Me” in English) open about 2 years ago, and is known best for their daily, fresh made pasta. Don’t be surprised if they run out of dishes, because their entire menu is made fresh. One of the most popular dishes on the menu is Pappardelle with Slow Braised Pork Ragu. Mangia Mi also boasts the best Happy Hour in Rincon! Offering $5 thin crust pizzas and popular appetizers such as fried eggplant and meatballs. There is also an extensive wine and craft brew menu to compliment the rich dishes. In the low season, which is the summertime, Chef Rebeca offers cooking classes, where she teaches people how to make fresh, homemade pasta.

And last, but certainly not least, Is Mew’s Thai Food. You could travel across the world, and you probably would not even come close to the love and authenticity of Mew’s Thai Food. A retired hairdresser from Thailand, Mew married an American Surfer. They then made the move to Rincon and purchased an investment property. Mew had a passion to create, which lead her to start cooking Thai food in her little backyard shanty kitchen, serving it to hungry surfers in the comfort and tropical beauty of her home. This is not your typical restaurant! Trying to find the house and parking is an adventure in itself. Just follow the dimly lit banana grove path, followed by the distant sound of coqui’s and kitchen clatter. You’ll come upon a small deck, with bar seating, picnic tables, and Thai Pop Music videos on the flat screen. It is BYOB. Travelers and Locals consider Mew’s Thai to be one of the best food experiences of their lives. Top picks off the menu would have to be her dank Pad Thai and the Scorching Hot Green Papaya Salad. The menu offers the classic Thai dishes most people love, but it isn’t uncommon for Mew to whip up something special. If what you want is not in the menu, just ask Mew, and chances are she will welcome the challenge of making it for you. She can seat about 10-15 people tops and serves dinner between 5pm-8pm.

I hope this made you hungry, not only for the amazing food but also for the vibes of Rincon, Puerto Rico. Book your next trip to Puerto Rico, and make sure you visit the West Side of the Island and Rincon. You will not regret it. You are guaranteed to have some of the best food you’ve ever tried, and your eyes will be the witnesses of some of the best sunsets in the world.
